Bread Pudding

For the second time in a row I have a baked pudding fail on me. I'm not sure if the problem are the original recipes, my technique or the fact that, at least in this case, I didn't use stale bread (I don't tend to keep it around). In any case, this recipe didn't work for me at all. It wasn't very sweet and it was too mushy and liquid inside (even though I cooked it for almost twice as long as the original recipe indicated). We ended up throwing it away.

Bread Pudding

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 slices of stale bread, torn
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. allspice
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla essence
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 cup raisins
  • 1/4 cup dried fruit

    Instructions

    Preheat oven to 350F.

Put bread pieces in a large bowl. In a different bowl, lightly beat the eggs. Add milk and mix. Pour egg-milk mixture over the bread pieces. Add the remaining ingredients and mix well. Pour into a baking dish. Pour 1 inch of hot water into a deep pan and place baking dish inside it. Bake pudding for about 1-hour or until dried inside.
