Tastes in pizza vary so much from person to person that I'm not sure if reviews of pizzerias are worth anything. Still, for the sake of completeness, if nothing else, I've decided to review some of the local San Leandro non-chain pizzerias that we've tried.

Even though we've lived in San Leandro for four years, we only got around to trying Angelina's pizza a month ago or so. We'd heard conflicting reports on their pizza. Some of our friends hated it, and some of our friends love it. We felt it was just OK.

On our first try we ordered the Spagnola pizza (linguica, roasted mushrooms, roasted red peppers, onion, smoked gouda, roasted garlic and garlic sauce). Mike felt the pizza was very salty, but I felt the crust was almost tasteless. The toppings seemed fresher than your usual pizza toppings, but neither of us were impressed by the pizza.

Given the positive reviews, I wanted to give it another try and a couple of weeks later we ordered the Four cheese plus pizza (mozzarella, cheddar, smoked gouda, parmesan, feta). We weren't sold on this one either. The cheese toppings seem quite skimpy (there was no more cheese than on your usual mozzarella pizza) and the only distinctive taste was that of the feta (which is not in itself a bad thing, but seemed like a waste of the other cheeses). This time, however, I agreed with Mike that the whole thing was too salty.

The pizzas have a medium-thickness crust, perhaps a little to the thin side.

We probably won't be ordering from Angelina's again, though you may want to give it a try.
