Fritelle di Melle

Apple Fritters

These homemade apple fritters are amazing. They're relatively easy to make and they burst with flavor. They are not at all like the ones you get at doughnut shops in America.

I made mine with relatively thin slices of apple, that meant that the apple and the batter almost melded. The batter worked well even after being refrigerated overnight.

Apple Fritters

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 4 Tbsp rum or grappa
  • rind of 1/2 lemon, grated
  • 2 Tbsp sugar + more for dusting
  • 4 to 6 Golden Delicious apples, peeled and sliced.
  • oil for frying

Instructions

Whisk together flour, eggs, milk, rum, lemon and sugar. Cover and let sit for one hour.

Dip apple slices in the batter.

Heat 1" of oil in frying pan over high heat. Add the apple slices and fry until golden brown. Turn and repeat. Remove with a slotted spoon and let drain on paper towels.

Dust with additional sugar before serving.
