Potatoes with Turmeric and Cumin





This is a simple and tasty side dish. I followed the recipe closely and while I wasn't awed by the results, they were pretty good.


Potatoes with Turmeric and Cumin

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs new or red potatoes
  • 5 Tbsp. Vegetable oil
  • 1/2 tsp
  • 1/8 tsp ground asafetida (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp black mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp ground coriander
  • 1/2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Directions

Dice potatoes into 1/2 " cubes.

Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Add the asafetida, followed by the mustard seeds and then cumin seeds. Add the potaotes and stir. Sprinkle with turmeric. Cook for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Sprinkle with coriander, cumin, cayenne and salt. Stir, cook for another minute and serve.
