Kansas City BBQ Sauce

Kansas City BBQ Sauce

Kansas City is famous for its BBQ and its BBQ sauce. Indeed, Kansas City BBQ is one of the four principal styles of BBQ in the US (though there are several others). Its BBQ sauce is both tomato and vinegar base; sweet, tangy and just a little bit spicy. It's the most common style of BBQ sauce in the US.

This recipe for KC BBQ sauce is as authentic as it gets and it's rather easy to make with items you probably have at home. I did have to buy molasses and liquid smoke, and I'm glad I did because they are both integral to this sauce. Without them, you might as well use Kraft bbq sauce.

Once you gather the ingredients, the sauce is quite easy to put together. While you only need 20 minutes to cook it, the longer you do, the more the flavors combine. This recipe makes about 2 cups, which should be enough for a couple of slabs of ribs if you don't use too much of it (and I wouldn't, as the sauce is so sweet and tangy that a little goes a long way).
