Located at the head of the Persian gulf, the territory of Kuwait has been occupied by humans at least since Mesolithic times. It was home to a native neolithic civilization, but throughout most of its history Kuwait has been under the control of one empire or another. It's had cultural links to Mesopotamia to the north, the Persian empire to the west and the peoples of the Arabia peninsula, particularly those on its eastern coast. Its prime location has made it a center of trade during much of its history.

Kuwaiti cuisine reflects these cultural influences, with Arabian, Mesopotamian and Persian influences predominating. Nowadays, over 60% of Kuwait's population are foreign immigrants, who have brought their own culture and their own gastronomic approaches. These are clearly influencing Kuwaiti cuisine as it moves forward.

I made three very typical Kuwaiti dishes, and they were overall good though less flavorful than I had hoped.

Related cuisines I've explored so far: Arab, Algerian, Assyrian, Baghdadi Jewish, Bahraini, Berber, Egyptian, Egyptian Jewish, Iraqi, Jordanian, Lebanese, Libyan, Ancient Persian, Iranian, Khuzestani
