Arab cuisine has a lot of flavor and dishes in common - from the famous shish kebabs, to the now ubiquitous hummus whose dozen varieties are now a permanent fixture of American supermarkets. But no food is more lauded among Arabs than Lebanese foods. They make the same dishes as everyone else, but they make them better. When I lived in Egypt over three decades ago, Lebanese restaurants were considered the height of cuisine, and they were priced accordingly.
I have cooked and eaten my fair share of Lebanese food over the years, so rather than seek to make specific dishes my approach this time was to look for a chicken, lamb and dessert recipe that I hadn't made or eaten myself. The results were pretty good - though I've become sort of a careless cook, so they could have been much better.
