León is a city, a province, a region, a medieval kingdom and, together with Castile, an autonomous region. The region has a varied geography, and includes mountains with woodlands and high and low altitude grasslands, optimal for the raising of cattle and sheep. Leonese lamb is priced throughout Spain.
León is also famous for its preserved pork products and its many sweets.
For my brief sojourn into Leonese cuisine, I made:
- Caldereta de Cordero a la Leonesa
Leonese Stewed Lamb, served with
- Patatas Meneas
Paprika Mashed Potatoes with Pancetta, and
- Limonada Leonesa
Leon-style Lemonade
Iberian cuisines I've explored so far:
Alavesan, Andalusian, Andorran, Aragonese, Asturian, Azorean, Balearic, Basque, Canarian, Cantabrian, Castilian, Catalan, Extremaduran, Galician, Gibraltarian, Jerezano, Lisbon
