Filipino Sweet and Sour Sauce

This Filipino sweet and sour sauce goes great with lumpia and I'm sure any other fry stuff you want to dip in it. When I first made it I thought it tasted a bit too much like ketchup, but by the next day the flavors had melded and it was great. I followed the recipe pretty much exactly.

Sweet and Sour Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup distilled vinegar
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 + 2 Tbsp. water
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 Tbsp cornstarch

Instructions

Combine the vinegar, soy sauce, ketchup, 1/2 cup of water and sugar in a small sauce pan. Put it on the stove over medium-high heat and boil for 2 minutes and remove from heat.Combine the cornstarch with the remaining 2 Tbsp. water and add to the sauce. Mix until it thickens. In a small pan combine vinegar, soy sauce, ketchup, water, sugar and salt, and boil for 2 minutes. Thicken with cornstarch mixture. Makes 1 1/4 cup
