International Food Market – San Leandro

The International Food Market opened on the little outside mall where Prince Dim Sum House is located, a few months ago. I went to visit it a couple of weeks ago after having lunch at Prince.
The store is not very big but has big intentions. It sells Greek, Asian, Middle Eastern and Mexican products. You can find Indian spices and Mexican spices (not on the same isle), cheap avocados and fresh eggs, lots of boxes of Greek products and so forth. Their inventory is pretty eclectic and you really need to drop by (or, more conveniently, call) to see if they sell something in particular. I think the market will be most useful for Greek and Middle Eastern products, as there are plenty of stores specializing on Asian and Mexican products in town. I don’t know how big the market is for what they do offer, and I’m concerned that the store may not survive. The woman who runs it, Eleni, is very nice and I’d like to see it succeed.
Now a note to my readers: please let me know of specific markets in San Leandro (and vicinities) that deserve to be visited and mentioned in this blog.

Hi, I am Eleni, the owner of the International Food Market. I like your review, but I didn’t know about this until a customer told me last Saturday. Anyway I am glad that you liked our store, but since May, you came, we have change the store a lot. We have new products, we sell sandwiches and Greek sweets, frozen halal meat, and we are planning to serve Greek coffee, nes cafe, espresso and more things pretty soon. I would like to meet you, so if you want come over again and introduce yourself.
    Thank you again,
    Eleni

It is a nice market, particularly good for middle eastern food such as feta, olives, pita, figs, etc. We love the tzatziki here. Much thicker and tastier than the one available at Trader Joes.

I have been to Eleni’s business many times and they are an excellent market, especially for Greek and middle eastern foods. They have a very quaint deli and the greek olives and feta are the best in the area. I am married to a Greek and we have used the International Market for dinners and small parties. If they don’t have what you need you can special order. Eleni and her husband have opened booths at the annual Greek Festival in Oakland, CA. If you have never been to the market I would personally and highly recommend it. I don’t think you will be disappointed.
