8 lbs of Navel Oranges = 1 qt orange juice

I have been juicing oranges for decades, but I usually juice them a few at a time, and had never actually done a whole bag. Still, I got an 8 lb from Safeway not too long ago, and figured I’d juice all of it and see what I got. The answer: 4 cups of orange juice, a quart.

Navel oranges are selling at Safeway now for $6/7 for the 8 lb bag.

How do you “juice” them? I’m new to this but I’m looking to get tips, I’ve made some before but I’m curious as to how in depth you go to cutting/stripping the oranges of everything but the juice or what. Thanks for you time!

I use a hand press orange juicer. Google that and you’ll see what they are. This is what I saw people selling fresh orange juice from carts using and it works well enough. I press them and then sort of twist them in place before removing them from the press but I don’t go overboard trying to get every drop of juice out.
