I was surprised at how easy these fritters were to make - and all with ingredients I already had at home. The fritters were light but pretty crunchy (I'm used to fritters with a soft center). By themselves they tasted of nothing, but they were quite nice with the honey and cinnamon.
Cinnamon and Honey Fritters
Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cup flour
- 1 pckg instant yeast
- 1 cup warm water
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- oil for deep frying
- honey to tase
- cinnamon to taste
Instructions
Sift flour and salt into the bowl of an electric mixer. Mix in the instant yeast. Slowly add the warm water, mixing all the time. The dough should be somewhat firm and elastic. Add more flour or water if necessary. Continue mixing until it starts to bubble.
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and put in a warm place. Let the dough rest for at least two hours, it should rise to double its size.
When ready, pour about an inch of oil into a deep pan. Heat on medium high and drop the dough by the teaspoon into the oil. Cook until golden and then turn and repeat. Remove fritters with a slotted spoon and place on thick paper towels. Cover with honey and cinnamon to taste and serve warm.
