Potatoes. Potatoes, potatoes, potatoes. Once upon a time, that is what the whole diet of the Irish poor consisted of. Not by choice, mind you, but because that is all their English masters would allow them, as they used the grain crops they produced for exportation.

Today Irish cuisine is a bit broader. It is still quite similar to English cuisine, however, though the Irish give dishes a twist with their local ingredients.
